1998 BMW 5 Series
The BMW 5 Series was completely redesigned in 1997. Hence, the 1998 edition of
5 Series receives only minor refinements. For this year, 5 Series comes with additional
airbag protection for both front and rear seat passenger. It receives a new Head
Protection System that includes an inflatable tube that is positioned from the
base of the windshield pillar to the roof just on top of the rear door. This system
is aimed to provide head protection for front seat occupants in a side impact.
For the rear seat occupants, 5 Series offers an optional side-impact airbags
which are door-mounted to increase the level of crash protection. Like any other
5 Series, this year's edition sports superb handling, turning precisely in every
corner with less body roll. And even in the worst road condition, 5 Series runs
smoothly due to the modern shock absorber technology. All other factors that provide
pleasant handling can be attributed to the vehicle's engine and suspension.
1998 BMW 5 Series has two available engines: the 2.8-liter I6 that gives off
190 horsepower and the 4.4liter V8 generating 282 horsepower. These engines are
mated with four various transmissions: 4-speed automatic overdrive, 5-speed automatic
overdrive, 5-speed manual and 6-speed manual overdrive. Among its standard features
are air conditioning, leather seats cassette player and power amenities like power
windows, power door locks and power seats.

An onboard navigation system is added to its list of options. This system has
a transmitter/receiver that communicates with Global Positioning Satellites. It
can pinpoint the exact map location of the car. You can view it on the screen
placed in the center console. To have your route automatically plotted, a series
of steps like inputting information should be followed. These are done through
the touch-pads on the screen.
